Camp Bayshore Day: Professional Day, Friday, February 10, 2012

If your child needs the services of Camp Bayshore for the day off from the regular school schedule, please print the CBS Registration Form, fill it out and turn it in to your child's teacher or the school office on or before Tuesday, February 7. (You may also choose to fax in the completed form: 835-1404 to Mrs. Erickson's attention.)

WHAT? Upper School (Middle and High School) students are invited to form teams to participate in this year's D-Cathlon. The event will take place at the same time as the Lower School's Walkathon.

TEAMS? Teams may have from four (4) to six (6) members. Teams may be formed by grade, interest, sports group, etc. Students must "name" their teams and are encouraged to have team colors, themes, t-shirts, etc. Each team must create a "team flag".

DONATIONS? To participate on a team and the cook-out, EACH student must bring in at least $50 in donations. Students may get corporate or business sponsors, and they may bring in smaller donations that will total $50.

HELPERS? We need student and faculty and parent helpers! Contact Mrs. Vath to volunteer your time!

9:30 Opening Ceremony / Parade of Teams (gymnasium)

10:00 Relays Begin

12 noon Closing Ceremony / Medal Presentations (gymnasium)

12:30 Cook-out on the Joy Property

Dinner and a Movie for the Winning Team
Bragging rights.

BCS SPREADS THE GOOD NEWS - FALL MISSION TRIP TO Dominican Republic - PLEASE NOTE THE DATE CHANGE!
Upper School students, grades 8 - 12, are invited to join us for the first annual Mission Trip on March 8 - 12. This trip was originally scheduled for November but was moved because of athletic scheduling conflicts. We will be partnering with SCORE International and sharing the Gospel through music, drama, and relational evangelism. The cost of the trip is $350 plus airfare, and includes all food, lodging, and ground transportation. Participants will need a valid passport (so apply now!) and will be required to complete the Student Mission Application. The application includes a statement of faith, and pastoral, teacher and administration references. Applications are available in the school office or from Mr. Proffitt. A deposit of $100 and your student application is due January 6, 2012.

If your student is interested in participating in this mission trip, sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ with the people of Dominican Republic, please email Mr. Proffitt, as soon as possible, at markproffitt@hotmail.com. Although we don't have specific details, as yet, we plan on participating in local ministry, and hope to bring "wordless" dramas, and possibly music, as well - - depending on the make-up of the team.

We will keep you informed of additional information, plans, costs, etc. as they are available!

Friday, March 9, is a Teacher Work Day and student holiday at Bayshore Christian School. Camp Bayshore will be in session.

We will have a great day planned, with plenty of spring arts and crafts, games, a treasure hunt and surprise activities. Be sure to pack your child a lunch and drink.

Camp Bayshore is open to all K2 students through 5th graders. Daily fee is $35 per child. Please have your registration form(s) to Mrs. Erickson by Wednesday, March 7. Camp Bayshore hours of operation are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. There is a $5 fee for late pickup between 6 and 6:15 p.m., and an additional $5 fee for every 15 minutes or portion of 15 minutes thereafter.

Sea Camp

Last April, students from grades 6 - 9 traveled to Sea Camp in the Florida Keys. Braving the chilly weather, they learned about a broad spectrum of marine biology subjects and had an excellent experience.

Last year many fundraisers were coordinated by parents to help defray the costs, and we're anticipating that you can expect similar assistance this year. If you would like to learn more about Sea Camp on line, you can visit their website, http://www.nhmi.org/.

Stanford Testing

Students taking the Stanford Achievement Test (not to be confused with SAT college entrance exam taken by high school students preparing to enter college classes) during the week of April 16-20 need to get a good night’s sleep. Studies have also shown that eating breakfast helps students remain focused on the test. Please have students in class on time during the week of testing. Arriving late and then having to make up part of the test is often upsetting to a student. Students need two #2 pencils to use on the test. Grades K-5 thru 9 will be taking the test. Grade 9 students may use a calculator.
